Grammar Point

A Keyphrase should be a short phrase that brings to mind and helps to remember the information on this frame.
必ずしもかならずしも

(not) always, (not) necessarily, (not) entirely, (not) all

with neg. sentence

必ずしも + Negative Sentence

必ずしも is an adverb used with a negative verb or adjective to indicate that something is not always or not necessarily the case. It softens a statement by pointing out that there are exceptions.

General Usage

When combined with a negative predicate, it creates the meaning of 'not necessarily' or 'not always'. It is often used with phrases like とは限らない (not limited to) or わけではない (it doesn't mean that) to clarify the partial negation.

Expensive things are not always good.

It is not necessarily true that everyone likes sushi.

Note

必ずしも must be followed by a negative form (such as ない, ありません, or ではない). It cannot be used in a purely affirmative sentence to mean 'always'; for that, use words like いつも or 必ず.
