Grammar Point

A Keyphrase should be a short phrase that brings to mind and helps to remember the information on this frame.
結構けっこう

rather, quite, fairly, pretty, surprisingly, quite a bit, fairly well

結構 + Adjective / Verb

Used as an adverb to indicate that a quality or quantity is higher than what was originally expected. It suggests that while not extreme, the level is significant enough to be noteworthy.

結構 + い-Adjective

When placed before an い-Adjective, it modifies the degree of that adjective to mean 'surprisingly' or 'pretty'.

This room is quite spacious.

That movie was rather interesting.

結構 + な-Adjective

When placed before a な-Adjective, it indicates the state is more significant than anticipated.

The town is quite quiet.

The exam was fairly easy.

結構 + Verb

When used with a verb, it indicates that the frequency or degree of the action is higher than expected.

I drink quite a bit of coffee.

I understand Japanese fairly well.

Note

While 結構 is often used to mean 'fairly' or 'quite', it can also be used as a な-Adjective to mean 'fine', 'good', or 'sufficient' (e.g., 結構です meaning 'No thank you' or 'That is fine'). This adverbial usage specifically focuses on the degree of an action or state exceeding expectations.
