Grammar Point

A Keyphrase should be a short phrase that brings to mind and helps to remember the information on this frame.
こそ

it is ... that ..., precisely, in particular, definitely, for sure, only (when, after, because, etc.)

emphasizes preceding word or phrase

Noun + こそ

The particle こそ is used to strongly emphasize the preceding word, phrase, or clause. It singles out a specific item or reason as being the most important or the exact one being discussed, often translated as 'precisely', 'definitely', or 'the very'.

Attaching こそ directly to a noun emphasizes that specific noun above all others.

This year for sure, I will study.

It is health that is important.

Note

When こそ follows a noun that would normally be followed by the particles は, が, or を, those particles are typically replaced by こそ. It cannot be used to emphasize the subject of a negative sentence unless it is contrasting with something else.

Particle / Clause + こそ

こそ can be used with particles or conditional clauses to emphasize a specific relationship, reason, or condition.

Reason Clause (から) + こそ

Adding こそ after the causal particle から emphasizes that the preceding reason is the primary or sole reason for the result.

It is precisely because I am busy that I use a notebook.

Verb て form + こそ

Adding こそ after the て form of a verb emphasizes that a certain state or action only became possible or realized after that specific action occurred.

Only after entering the room did I notice.

Note

When used with the conditional ~てはじめて (only after), こそ adds even stronger emphasis to the fact that the result was impossible before that specific condition was met.
