なりに/なりの

in one's own way or style

Noun + なりに

This grammar point is used to express that something is done in a way that is appropriate to a person's or thing's specific abilities, status, or nature. It acknowledges limitations while highlighting that an effort or style is being made within those bounds.

The adverbial form なりに is used after a noun to describe how an action is performed.

I am thinking about it in my own way.

The child helped in their own way.

Note

When using なりに, it often implies that while the result might not be perfect or professional, it is the best possible outcome given the specific circumstances or the subject's capacity.

Noun 1 + なりの + Noun 2

The form なりの is used when the concept of 'in one's own way' is modifying a following noun directly. It functions like an adjective to describe a specific style, effort, or method belonging to the subject.

Noun + なりの + Noun

Noun 1 represents the subject (the person or thing), and Noun 2 represents the thing they possess or the method they use.

Everyone has their own way of life.

This plan has its own merits.

Note

なりの is specifically used to link two nouns, whereas なりに is used to modify verbs or adjectives.
