Grammar Point

A Keyphrase should be a short phrase that brings to mind and helps to remember the information on this frame.
であろう

will, probably, may, I think, surely, I hope, I fear, it seems

Verb / い-Adjective (Informal) + であろう

To express written conjecture with verbs and い-Adjectives, append であろう to the informal plain form of the word. This indicates the writer's guess, meaning 'probably' or 'will likely'.

Verb

Attach であろう to the plain informal non-past or past tense of a verb.

The train will probably arrive soon.

The package probably arrived already.

い-Adjective

Attach であろう to the plain informal non-past or past tense of an い-Adjective.

This summer will probably be hot.

Life in the past was probably hard.

Note

であろう is a formal, written expression often used in essays, articles, or literature. It is the formal equivalent of だろう. It represents a guess that is not necessarily based on solid evidence.

Noun / な-Adjective + であろう

For nouns and な-Adjectives, attach であろう directly to the noun or the stem of the な-Adjective in the non-past tense. For the past tense, use the informal past form (だった) before であろう.

な-Adjective

Attach であろう directly to the な-Adjective stem (without な or だ) for non-past, or to the informal past form だった for the past tense.

That plan is probably safe.

In the past, this place was probably inconvenient.

Noun

Attach であろう directly to the Noun (without だ) for non-past, or to the informal past form だった for the past tense.

That story is probably a lie.

This place was probably the ocean in the past.

Note

A common mistake is adding the copula だ before であろう in the non-past tense for nouns and な-adjectives. This is grammatically incorrect. It must attach directly to the stem or noun. However, in the past tense, だった is required.
