Verb / い-Adjective / な-Adjective / Noun

かしら is a sentence-final particle used predominantly by female speakers to express a soft, polite sense of wondering, uncertainty, or a gentle request. It is the feminine equivalent of the masculine particle かな.

Verb

When used with verbs, it expresses the speaker's uncertainty or curiosity about an action.

I wonder if it will rain tomorrow.

I wonder if that person is coming.

い-Adjective

When used with い-adjectives, it expresses a wonder about a state or quality.

I wonder if this cake is delicious.

I wonder if it was expensive.

な-Adjective and Noun

When used with な-adjectives or nouns, the dictionary form (without だ) is used to express uncertainty.

I wonder if the park is quiet.

I wonder if that is a cat.

Note

かしら is generally considered feminine or polite speech. When used with な-adjectives or nouns in the present tense, the copula だ is usually omitted before かしら. In very formal contexts, it can follow the ます or です forms, though it is most commonly used with informal forms.
