Noun + を + Transitive Verb

The particle を is used to mark the noun that is the direct object of a transitive verb. It indicates the person or thing that is directly affected by the action of the verb.

Direct Object Marking

Place the particle を immediately after the noun that is receiving the action of the verb.

I drink water.

I read a book.

I ate an apple.

Note

The particle を is only used with transitive verbs (verbs that take an object). It is not used with intransitive verbs. In casual speech, を is often omitted if the context is clear.
