Noun + + Transitive Verb

The particle is used to mark the noun that is the direct object of a transitive verb. It indicates the person or thing that is directly affected by the action of the verb.

Direct Object Marking

Place the particle immediately after the noun that is receiving the action of the verb.


I drink water.

I read a book.

I ate an apple.

Note

The particle is only used with transitive verbs (verbs that take an object). It is not used with intransitive verbs. In casual speech, is often omitted if the context is clear.
