たって

even if, even though

also だって

Verb past + って

This formation is used to express that even if a certain action is taken or a certain state exists, the expected outcome will not occur or the situation remains unchanged. It is the informal version of ても.

Verb た form + って

The past tense form of the verb is used followed by って to create the 'even if' meaning.

Even if I run, I won't make it.

Even if I read it, I don't understand.

Note

たって is the informal version of ても. When the Verb て form ends in で, it changes to だって. This form is primarily used in casual speech.

Adjective + ったって / だって

Used with adjectives to show that even if a quality is present, it doesn't change the result or opinion.

い-Adjective かった + って

Replace the final い of the い-adjective with かったって.

Even if it is cheap, I won't buy it.

な-Adjective stem + だって

Add だって directly to the stem of the な-adjective.

Even if it is quiet, I can't sleep.

Note

For い-adjectives, the final い is replaced with かった. For な-adjectives, the stem is followed by だ.

Noun + だって

Used with nouns to indicate that even if something is the case, the outcome is unaffected.

Add だって directly after the noun.

Even if it is a holiday, I work.

Note

This is equivalent to the more formal Noun + でも.
